Funafuti is the main island of Tuvalu. Apart from various beach activities, the island offers the tourists interesting excursions to the Funafuti Conservation Area, where different types of species, especially turtles, nesting seabirds, colorful fish, and coconut crabs can be seen. This conservation area was established in order to prevent hunting and fishing. The greatest attraction of the capital is the Funafuti Lagoon, which is good for swimming and snorkeling. The Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau on Funafuti attracts the visitors by its postal stamps, which have become known all over the world. The best ways to explore Funafuti are by bicycle or on foot. The tourists can also rent a motor bike or hire a taxi.
The second most populated island in the atoll is Funafala. Beautiful atolls, picturesque lagoons, and white sandy beaches of this island provide the tourists with memorable impressions. It should be said that several islands of the country have salt-water ponds, but if you choose the island of Nanumea you will see fresh-water ponds surrounded by coconut palms. Such islands as Nanumea, Nukufetau, Funafuti, and Tepuka have the ruins, left after the World War II. On the northeastern side of Nanumea old airbase of the allied forces is located. The remains of plane wrecks can be seen on Nukufetau Island. So, these artifacts became the leading attractions of the country. Tuvalu is blessed with some archaeological attractions. Pay attention that Tuvalu has a very place where scientists found the facts that proved Darwin’s theory about the formation of the atolls. Apart from all historical and archeological sites, the country draws the tourists by wonderful natural landscapes, clear waters, and constant sunshine. All these give incredible charm to the place.
