Tuvalu is the world's fourth smallest country. Its total land area is just 26 sq km. The country is situated in the Western-Central Pacific (Micronesia), between Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Wallis, Futuna, and Tokelau. Tuvalu consists of several atolls, among which Nukufetau, Vaitupu, Nui, Niuatao, Nanumea, Nukulaelae, Nanumaga, and Niulakita. Almost half of the country's population inhabits the island of Funafuti, the capital and centre of government of Tuvalu. The landscape of Tuvalu is rather unique because there are no mountains, waterfalls or natural streams, only the atolls, separated by beautiful lagoons. The climate of Tuvalu is ranked as tropical, with some winds, blowing from March to November.
